I went to the play off second leg between Ireland and Estonia last week. The match was absolutely rubbish (overal result was great) but the most entertaining parts of the evening were, in no particluar order, the guy who mooned at the crowd, the paper aeroplanes and the Mexican wave. What have they got to do with great presentations. They kept us entertained watching the match. Without them we would have started talking to people either side of us or texting on our mobile phones. Our minds would have wandered to other parts of our lives because the match wasn't capable of holding our attention. All great presentations need elements that will hold our attention. Audiences lose interest and let their minds wander to other parts of their lives when a presentation is boring. There are many tools available to presenters. Stories, humour, audience involvement to name a few. The key is to find the ones that work for you. To finish with a footballing analogy, presenters score own goals when they deliver presentations that don't include elements that keep their entertain
